International Documentary Fall Semester Program

International Documentary Semester Program Based in Bonn, Germany, the AIB International Documentary Program affords students in their junior year a semester of rigorous production training, grooming them for careers in film and beyond. The various disciplines of Cinematography, Editing, Directing and Production are provided to selected American Film students with an European theme and ambience.

The program is unique in how thoroughly it prepares participants for their venture overseas, requiring prior study in German and European topics. Once in Bonn, students get hands-on experience in intensive courses and workshops before beginning their own documentary short. All courses are for Juniors and are uniquely combined into Master Workshops; each of the program's courses are taught in blocks of three weeks, and concluded by a six-week production session, during which each student produces his or her own digital documentary, experimental or art film.

The International Documentary Program is a partnership with the School of Film and Television Loyola Marymount University Los Angeles, which has been collaborating with AIB for more than 20 years. The program is owned by the university and thus reproduces its on-campus offerings. Faculty and staff work together to ensure easy transfer of academic credits and financial aid. The cost of tuition, housing (with nearby host families), meals, transportation and excursions (to Berlin and Leipzig) is comparable to that of a semester on campus.

The program facilities are located in the heart of Bonn in walking distance from the Rhine river.

Surrounded by TV channels, commercial enterprises and film businesses, the Rhineland area provides an ideal study and working environment. Bonn functions as a European location for advertising, architecture, art, and the media - in short, for creative industries.

Our facilities are state of the art: We provide editing labs, sound and color correction rooms, including common software, lighting, sound and camera equipment.
