Graduate International Documentary Program

International Documentary Semester Program

Documentary Production

After having 20 years of experience in undergrade film program, AIB is now also providing international documentary study abroad experiences for graduate students. For these programs we are in partnership with film schools from the USA, India and Europe and projects are supported by a network of international NGOs and companies who invest in CSR (corporate social responsibility).

Participants have the chance to produce their own CSR documentary film during a three month stay abroad. The filmmakers have the possibility to work closely together with affiliated sponsor organizations to document important social projects, many in underdeveloped regions of the world.

Before shooting on location, students will refine their tools and techniques needed to tell compelling stories at AIB‘s state-of-the-art classrooms and production facilities in Bonn, Germany. Courses are designed to support students in their production. Each student will direct and edit his or her own documentary film and serve as a key production crewmember on at least one other project. The documentary programs represent the convergence of journalism, social activism and the art of filmmaking.

Our AIB pilot project 2014:

In cooperation with Professor Prasenjit Gosh from the renown Satyajit Ray Film & TV institute in Kolkata (SRFTI), young filmmakers are working on a project for Childfund Germany (a third world NGO) with a shooting period in India. The directors also get the chance to work together with young German filmmusic composers (musicube-academy.de) on original music for their films in a professional working environment. The postproduction is almost finished (rough cut version is available through Olaf Brodersen, brodersen@aib-studyabroad.org)

Another project (now in pre production phase) is a film for Marol Academy in South Sudan (marolacademysudan.org) in cooperation with Jok Madu Jok, Loyola Marymount University, Department of History.

The AIB provides all logistical, academic and technical support. We are now looking for faculty to support our participants through lectures and workshops on site in Germany during the preproduction and production phases of the programs.
