College of Architecture

Spring Semester Program






This program is designed for Texas A&M University undergraduate students of the College of Architecture. While taking a full workload of courses for credit back at home, participants will have the unique opportunity to live and learn in Germany.
Students acquire artistic, scientific, cognitive and technical compentences within the realm of film making, animation, gaming and interactive graphics. The program allows students to integrate and apply conceptual theory to practice in areas of vizualisation, employing newly acquired skills, ranging from computer science and video technology to psychology, architecture, art, illustration, politics, philosophy and culture.
The academic program is complemented by numerous class-related field trips, guest lectures and company visits (graphic design, computer gaming and animation) that allow students to directly apply aquired skills to substantial theorem and translate knowledge into performance. Attendance at the FMX Conference on Animation, Effects,Games and Interactive Media in Stuttgart, Germany is considered to be the highlight of the program.

The AIB is equipped with modern state-of-the-art computer labs, the latest software such as Maya, Cinema 4D, and Final CutPro. The hardware includes professional video equipment, editing devices, light and sound tools, all of which are at students disposal upon request.

All courses are delivered in English.


301. Field Studies in Design Innovation. Credit 1 to 6.
Design innovation in international and domestic environments away from the Texas A&M University campus; emphasis on the cultural, social, economic, geographical, climatic and technological factors influencing design solutions for human needs.

311. Field Studies in Design Communication. Credit 3.
Design communication in international and domestic environments away from the Texas A&M University campus; emphasis on the tools, methods and techniques for design communication.

331. Field Studies in Design Philosophy. Credit 3.
Design philosophy in international and domestic environments away from the Texas A&M University campus; emphasis on the historical, philosophical, cultural, social and economic factors that influence design solution.

485. Directed Studies


Among many field trips in the greater area of the region, three longer excursions (Amsterdam, Berlin and Stuttgart) are also part of the program and give students a chance to study the different sights of central Europe at first hand.
