PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
This program offers College of Architecture students a unique opportunity to take design coursework in Bonn, in one of the most architecturally innovative cities in the world, while also providing ample opportunity for the student to explore all of Europe.

The program offers undergraduate and master's courses in art, design, and building construction.

CARC 301. Field Studies in Design Innovation. Credit 1 to 18.
Design innovation in international and domestic environments away from the University campus; emphasis on the cultural, social, economic, geographical, climatic and technological factors influencing design solutions for human needs.

CARC 311. Field Studies in Design Communication. (2-4). Credit 3.
Design communication in international and domestic environments away from the University campus; emphasis on the tools, methods and techniques for design communication.

CARC 331. Field Studies in Design Philosophy. (3-0). Credit 3.
Design philosophy in international and domestic environments away from University campus; emphasis on the historical, philosophical, cultural, social and economic factors that influence design solutions.

CARC 485 Directed Studies
Individual research in architecture, construction science or landscape architecture in an international or domestic environment away from the Texas A&M University campus. May be taken up to two times in the same semester. Prerequisite: CARC 481 or approval of instructor and degree coordinator.

BonnSituated on the Rhine River, Bonn is the former capital of West Germany as well as the birthplace of Ludwig van Beethoven. The city and its surrounding are rich in castles, medieval towns and natural beauty. Students can play fußball in one of Bonn’s several parks, explore the gardens of Poppelsdorfer Castle or walk, run or bike along the Rhine.

Bonn has developed into an international technology, business, research and NGO hub, and serves as corporate headquarters for T-Mobile and Deutsche Post; houses several world-renown research centers; and is one of the world’s largest United Nations cities. Bonn is centrally located in Western Europe allowing easy train travel to cities such as Paris and Amsterdam.

The Bonn-Cologne airport is served by many low-cost airlines allowing students access to cities such as Venice, Budapest, London, Rome, Prague and Barcelona, among others. The academy's facility lies at the center of the city, close to the Rhein river. This area is an ideal environment to study and work. Students utilize a 6,500 sq. ft. studio flat with state-of-the-art computing and multimedia equipment.

  • Open to College of Architecture students with a minimum GPA of 2.5
  • Good standing with TAMU and professor approval
  • Must be accepted to upper division coursework
  • Must have completed CARC 481, or be in the process
